PATÍ CIENTÍFIC

Patí Científic (Scientific Sailing Skate)

Mission: To show the main objectives and partners of the citizen science project Patí Científic. A group of researchers from the Institute of Marine Sciences of Barcelona (ICM-CSIC) and the Faculty of Nautics of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), together with the Club Patí Vela from Barcelona, has turned a small sailboat, a pleasure boat closely linked to the Catalan territory, into a vessel for oceanographic research aimed at monitoring the coastal waters of Barcelona.

Approach: Video testimonials of various researchers and partners of the project.

Client: Institut de Ciències del Mar – Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (ICM-CSIC).

SEAWATCHERS

Seawatchers / Observadores del Mar

Mission: To promote the new redisigned Seawatchers (Observadores del Mar) website for marine research. Through this web platform, people in contact with the sea can share their observations and experience regarding changing phenomena in this environment, which is useful for various marine research projects. One of the main aims of this project is to encourage citizens to participate in scientific projects that promote the conservation and knowledge of the marine environment. Moreover it is a very large project, with many different themes and activities ranging from lectures, school projects or networking sentinel observatories and encouraging citizens to be interested in marine sciences.

Approach: Video testimonials of various researchers, funders and contributors of the platform.

Client: Institut de Ciències del Mar – Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (ICM-CSIC).

PETITS OCEANOGRAFS

Petits Oceanografs

Mission: To show the different activities of the project and to live stream the associated congress. The main aim of the Petits Oceanografs project is to promote the study of the oceans between Primary students (10-12 years old) through hands on workshops and a scientific congress. The project is funded by Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT).

Approach: Video coverage of the different workshops and congress and also live streaming of the poster session.

Client: Institut de Ciències del Mar – Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (ICM-CSIC).

RISC-KIT

Resilience-Increasing Strategies for Coasts – toolKIT

Mission: To show the benefits of the RISC-KIT toolkit to stakeholders and potential end users. The main objective of the RISC-KIT project is to develop methods, tools and management approaches to reduce risk and increase resilience to low-frequency, high-impact hydro-meteorological events in the coastal zone.

Approach: Interviews with potential end users, researchers and stakeholders filmed at different European locations.

Client: Eurocean Foundation

EUROFLEETS2 ISLAND CRUISE

ISLAND Cruise

Mission: To show the main objectives and first results of the ISLAND cruise. The Eurofleets2 ISLAND project aims to produce an integrated approach in the study of the submarine canyons of NW Sicily.

Approach: Documentary filmed on board R/V Angeles Alvariño during the Eurofleets2 ISLAND Cruise.

Client: Eurocean Foundation

EUROFLEETS2 TNA

EUROFLEETS2 Transnational Access

Mission: To present the TNA (Transnational Access) activities of the EU Eurofleets2 Project. The European funding is valorised through the TNA activities, aimed to provide free access to 22 European RVs and five pieces of equipment on basis of scientific excellence.

Approach: Interviews to researchers and students filmed on board R/V Angeles Alvariño during the Eurofleets2 ISLAND Cruise.

Client: Eurocean Foundation

MARDUINO

Marduino: my buoy, our data and the ocean

Mission: To present MARDUINO project. This crowd science project aims to increase people’s awareness of seawater quality. MARDUINO proposes the design of a low budget DIY sea buoy: KdUINO buoy. The buoy allows citizens to measure seawater transparency. Scientists are able to forecast changes in seawater quality by analyzing its transparency variations.

Approach: Introductory video filmed in studio and outdoors during one of the research group field trips. Motion graphics used to explain some of the concepts.

Client: Institut de Ciències del Mar – Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (ICM-CSIC)

KdUINO

Kduino, DIY sea buoy

Mission: To show how to build KdUINO buoy step by step. KdUINO is a low budget DIY sea buoy that allows citizens to measure seawater transparency. Scientists are able to forecast changes in seawater quality by analyzing its transparency variations. KdUINO is part of the MARDUINO project.

Approach: Step-by-step video filmed in studio.

Client: Institut de Ciències del Mar – Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (ICM-CSIC)

PHYTOSCOPE

Phytoplankton biodiversity multiscale characterization using advanced optical technologies

Mission: To present PHYTOSCOPE project. The aim of this project, funded by the Total Foundation, is to demonstrate the feasibility of high-resolved oceanographic optical data for better understanding of phytoplankton biodiversity and dynamics. The overall objective of PHYTOSCOPE is to demonstrate the usefulness of high-resolved oceanographic data (in the three domains: spatial, temporal and taxonomical) for better discrimination of phytoplankton composition and dynamics, related to small and large scale processes.

Approach: Documentary. Filmed during one of the field trips to the project’s study area, the Alfacs Bay, a Southern coastal embayment of the Ebro Delta in the NW Mediterranean Sea. Motion graphics used to explain some of the concepts.

Client: Institut de Ciències del Mar – Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (ICM-CSIC), TOTAL Foundation

MELCOR CRUISE

Geo-acoustic mapping of benthic habitat distribution

Mission: To present MELCOR cruise, dedicated to acquire a high resolution geophysical dataset over the newly discovered Cold-Water Coral (CWC) mound fields of the Alboran Sea. This cruise is part of the EU FP7 Marie Curie Project GEO-HABIT, specifically fitted to study CWC communities, considered biodiversity hotspots in the deep sea.

Approach: Documentary filmed on board R/V Garcia del Cid during the MELCOR Cruise.

Client: National Oceanography Centre – Natural Environment Research Council (NOC-NERC)

BIOMASA
